How to find unclaimed money in your state, free

States hold forgotten bank balances, uncashed paychecks, refunds, deposits, and insurance payouts until the owner claims them. Searching and claiming on official state sites is free.

How to search

  1. Find your state below. Each link is the official program listed by NAUPA (unclaimed.org), the association of state unclaimed property administrators.
  2. Search your current name, past names, and common misspellings. Repeat for every state you've lived in.
  3. Or search many states at once on MissingMoney.com, the free multi-state search endorsed by NAUPA.
  4. File the claim on the state site and keep your claim number.
